Telehealth Coding & Billing

Many family planning providers have begun offering telehealth visits since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While telehealth services were often initially implemented to help ensure access to care while limiting potential exposure to COVID-19 for both health care providers and patients, many health centers now view telehealth as a permanent fixture of their service delivery. To assist health centers in coding and billing for telehealth services, NFPRHA has created the two resources below.

Initiating Telehealth in Response to COVID-19: Coding and Billing for Telehealth Services — This guide will help providers get up to speed on key terms and codes for telehealth coding and billing. It includes codes for telehealth visits, information on modifiers and place of services codes, and documentation tips.

Telehealth Coding and Billing ModuleThis online, self-paced learning module on telehealth coding and billing expands upon the concepts introduced in the above coding and billing guide, including:

  • CPT/HCPCS codes for telehealth visits
  • Telehealth modifiers
  • Telehealth place of services code
  • Clinical case studies to demonstrate correct usage of the codes

These resources are available to the public and made possible, in part, through the support of Bayer.
