Life After 40
The Family Planning Network and the ACA
The seismic changes initiated under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are creating tremors across the Title X system. Many publicly funded program staff and health systems have already experienced significant disruption as economic and political challenges have strained budgets, depleted reserves, and tested resilience, and there is more upheaval ahead. NFPRHA member organizations are grappling with how family planning service delivery and Title X's historic role as the standard-setter in family planning programs will change as a result of the ACA.
The Life After 40 project was developed to help NFPRHA members adapt to change related to the implementation of health care reform. The core components of the project include:
- Case Studies and Companion Workbooks – The Life After 40 staff is gathering information on how family planning providers across the country are adapting to change. Four to six case studies detailing best practices and lessons learned will soon be produced and available to members. Companion workbooks with various example documents and training tools will be created for each case study.
- Resource Directory – The Life After 40 staff is preparing an easy-to-search list of resources that will be available online, at your fingertips. The resource directory will include informational articles, sample documents, a consultant/services directory, and an interactive peer-to-peer function. Tools, agendas and presentations from the December 2010 and March 2011 Life After 40 meetings are available now in the Conference and Meeting Archives.
- Trainings on Billing and Coding/Revenue Cycle – As the federal government dramatically increases the role of Medicaid and commercial insurance exchanges as sources for coverage, the Title X network will need to expand its capacity for billing. In 2013, the Life After 40 project will offer more frequent and intensive trainings on implementing and/or improving revenue cycle.
Regional meetings and conferences are essential platforms to deliver information and tools gathered by the Life After 40 project. The next opportunity to learn from the Life After 40 project is the 2013 National Conference in Alexandria, VA. Learn more about how to attend.
