NFPRHA Condemns Elimination of Title X Family Planning Program in President’s Proposed FY 2027 Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Trump released his administration’s fiscal year 2027 budget, eliminating funding for Title X, the nation’s federal family planning program. Clare Coleman, President & CEO of NFPRHA, released the following media statement:

“The Trump Administration has made its priorities clear: it is willing to take birth control and essential sexual health care out of reach for millions of people with low incomes. Its proposal to eliminate Title X funding is a direct attack on the nation’s only federal program dedicated to family planning, and it threatens to dismantle a critical pathway to care.

“Eliminating funding for Title X would harm community health beyond family planning. Title X-funded services are often a patient’s only source of health care, and contraceptive and sexual health care is a pathway to accessing other needed preventive health care. Indispensable to our nation’s health care safety net, the federal program plays an instrumental role in ensuring patients in need get the care they want and need without cost being a barrier.

“If this budget becomes law, nearly 3 million people would lose access to lifesaving care. This proposal comes as Medicaid cuts and rising inflation are driving up health care costs for consumers, resulting in significant reductions in access to care and poorer health outcomes.

“A majority of members of Congress and an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of Americans believe contraception is an essential health service. We urge Congress to reject the President’s budget proposal.”
