NFPRHA Commends Biden Administration on Bold Move to Make Abortion Access a Reality for All
Statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of NFPRHA
WASHINGTON, DC – “NFPRHA commends President Biden for supporting repeal of the Hyde amendment in his budget proposal released today. In 2020, then-candidate Joe Biden vowed to oppose the Hyde amendment, and today’s budget keeps that promise. This administration has made racial equity one of its core goals, and ending the racist and discriminatory Hyde amendment fits squarely within that effort.
Today we mark the first time in decades that a president has submitted a budget without the Hyde amendment. The work to repeal the Hyde Amendment was designed and led by women of color – community leaders, organizational champions and elected policymakers all across the country. It is because of their clear and courageous leadership that the Hyde Amendment will be repealed. NFPRHA is proud to be among the organizations following All* Above All and other champions in this effort.
“Repealing the Hyde amendment is essential to ensuring that more people can get the abortion care they need. The Hyde amendment and other abortion coverage bans have put access to abortion care out of reach for too many people across the country. We are grateful for the Biden administration to improve abortion access for millions in this country, and we call on Congress to continue this momentum by passing federal appropriations bills without abortion coverage bans, including the Hyde amendment.”
