NFPRHA Applauds Biden-Harris Administration Proposal to Expand Contraception Coverage Under ACA
Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).
“NFPRHA applauds the Biden-Harris administration’s proposed rule to expand coverage of affordable contraception under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Requiring no-cost access to all contraceptive products, including over-the-counter birth control such as the newly FDA-approved Opill, condoms and emergency contraception, would mark the largest expansion of ACA contraceptive coverage since its adoption. The administration’s proposal would also require no-cost coverage of contraceptives with no therapeutic equivalent, another key aspect of this proposed expansion.
“This proposed rule will significantly benefit family planning providers, including those offering Title X-funded care, who serve patients facing financial barriers and living in underserved communities. By expanding coverage, the rule would enable providers to offer a wider range of contraceptive methods, giving patients more options to take control of their own reproductive health. We commend this big step forward and look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration to ensure everyone, regardless of income, insurance coverage, or any other factor can access contraceptive coverage from providers they trust.”
