House Appropriations Subcommittee Proposal Will Harm Access to Family Planning Care
Washington, DC – The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) issued the following statement in response to the House Labor-Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations Subcommittee fiscal year (FY) 2026 funding proposal, attributed to Clare Coleman, President & CEO of NFPRHA.
“The House Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee is proposing to eliminate funding for the Title X family planning program, once again; a tactic frequently used by the same legislators who oppose the right to contraception. It goes further, too, restraining Title X through a prohibition on the program’s abortion referral requirements. If enacted, the legislation would impact millions, undermining the nation’s family planning safety net. It would overwhelm providers already facing immense challenges, and leave vulnerable individuals without access to lifesaving preventive health care, including cancer screening, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing, and contraception.
“We urge members of the US House to reject the legislation when it is brought up for consideration on the House floor. Everyone deserves the ability to access high-quality family planning and sexual health care.”
