Senate Proposes a Game-Changing Funding Increase for Title X
Washington, DC – Today, the Senate released its fiscal year (FY) 2022 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) appropriations bill, which includes $500 million for the Title X, marking a 75% increase for the program. The following is a statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).
“The US Senate Labor-HHS bill released today includes $500 million for the Title X family planning program, a history-making funding increase that would allow family planning providers to meet the growing health care needs of people in their communities, particularly those who already face systemic barriers to care, including people of color and those with low incomes.
“Today’s funding increase for Title X is truly extraordinary. Never in the history of the program have we seen such an increase in funding. Today’s proposal is pivotal for a program in desperate need of resources. Providers across the country are struggling to survive under the Trump administration’s harmful Title X rule and the enduring COVID-19 pandemic. Only 1.5 million people were able to access Title X-funded services in 2020, a drop of 60% from 2018, and just 2,600 health centers remain in the program, down from 4,000 two years ago. These funds will allow highly qualified, dedicated family planning providers and administrators to rebuild their networks and ensure access to care for people in their communities.”
