NFPRHA Denounces House Bill That Fails to Fund Title X
Statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA)
WASHINGTON DC – “NFPRHA is extremely disappointed that the House has chosen to put politics over policy and failed to fund the Title X family planning program, the nation’s only funding source dedicated solely to reducing unintended pregnancy by providing family planning and sexual health care, including contraception, counseling, cancer screenings, and STD services to an estimated 4.1 million women and men every year.
“The nation is facing a major public health emergency resulting from the Zika virus. To date there are nearly 1,000 cases reported across the continental US and more than 2,000 cases in US territories. Defunding the network of high-quality family planning providers that at the same time is being called upon to respond to the Zika crisis is reckless and shortsighted.
“If our nation’s leaders refuse to invest in evidence-based prevention programs that protect Americans’ health at a time when communities across the country are bracing to combat a public health crisis, when will they? Congress must block this bill.”
