NFPRHA Welcomes Dr. Levine as US HHS Assistant Secretary of Health

Washington, DC - Today, the US Senate confirmed Dr. Rachel Levine as the next Assistant Secretary of Health (ASH) at the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS). The following is a statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).

“NFPRHA welcomes the confirmation of Rachel Levine as the next Assistant Secretary for Health at the US Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Levine has demonstrated her commitment to public health, and we are confident she will lend her considerable skills and clinical experience to advance policies that strengthen the family planning safety net and improve access to care in her new role.

“Family planning providers and administrators nationwide have unduly suffered under the Trump administration’s dangerous Title X rule. It is beyond time to repair the extensive damage caused by the rule and restore access to Title X-funded services. With Secretary Xavier Becerra at the helm and Dr. Levine as ASH, HHS has the leaders it needs to refocus the Department on building an equitable and accessible health care system designed to improve the health of all.

“NFPRHA congratulates Dr. Levine on her historic confirmation, and we are enthusiastic about working with her to repair our nation’s family planning program and meet the health needs of the millions of people across the country.”
