NFPRHA Applauds HHS Announcement of Forthcoming Title X Rulemaking

Washington, DCToday, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the department will be issuing a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to undo the 2019 Title X rule no later than April 15, 2021. Following an open comment period, HHS plans to issue a final rule “by early fall and effective in time for the Fiscal Year 2022 funding announcement, which is expected to be issued in December 2021.” The following is a statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).

“We applaud the Biden administration for delivering on its promise by taking action today to make it right for the Title X program and millions of people who rely on it for care. Across the country, family planning providers have been struggling under the weight of disastrous program restrictions. Just seven weeks since President Biden ordered a review, HHS is ready to move ahead with the relief needed to restore access to care for millions who seek family planning services. We urge the administration to move as quickly as possible to promulgating new rulemaking that is core to the Title X program’s integrity and centers people in need of care.”
