Kami Geoffray, CEO, Every Body Texas Reflects on Leading Texas' Title X Program

When I joined what was then the Women’s Health and Family Planning Association of Texas in early 2016, we had no reason to anticipate that the state-level attacks on family planning providers in Texas would inform our national advocacy efforts over the next 4 years. But, like many NFPRHA members, I soon was called to join the fight to save Title X—supporting media advocacy that amplified the voices of Title X providers and clients harmed by policies first tested in Texas and later advanced by the Trump administration, serving as a declarant in NFPRHA’s lawsuit challenging the 2018 Title X funding opportunity announcement, and providing congressional testimony opposing the 2019 Title X rule on behalf of Title X grantees. It has been an honor and a privilege to share the stories of Title X providers and to educate policymakers and the public on the importance of protecting Title X funding and services—an experience I know many NFPRHA members share and one I encourage all to explore more deeply.
Through it all, NFPRHA’s staff and members served as a constant source of support and guidance. Not only through the targeted attacks of the Trump administration, but also as our organization responded to the Zika outbreak in 2016, Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. There really is no wrong door at NFPRHA and I’m grateful to have walked through so many over the last five years.
While I may be passing the baton at Every Body Texas, I look forward to remaining an active and committed NFPRHA member. And to continuing to learn, grow, and ceaselessly advocate on behalf of the providers and clients who most need our support.
