House Funding Bill Seeks to Protect Title X from Unlawful Program Rule

WASHINGTON, DCToday, the US House of Representatives approved a fiscal year (FY) 2021 funding measure, which provides level funding for the Title X family planning program and includes language protecting the program from the administration’s Title X rule. The following is a statement from Clare Coleman, President & CEO of NFPRHA:

“We are grateful that the House funding bill would block the unlawful Title X rule and put a stop to the damage it is causing family planning providers and their patients in communities across the country. We welcome this major step toward saving the Title X program and bringing desperately needed relief for the millions of people who count on it for essential health care.

“At the same time, we are disappointed the House did not take an opportunity to further invest in a program that is in need of federal support, particularly now as family planning providers are working overtime to meet patients’ health needs amid a public health crisis. Inaction in the face of an emergency runs counter to the views of the American public, which believes there should be more access to birth control during the pandemic, rather than maintaining the status quo.”
