Texas District Court Ruling on Mifepristone a Dangerous Setback

Washington, DC – Today, District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued a dangerous decision that could potentially eliminate access to mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortion. The following is a statement by Clare Coleman, President & CEO of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).

“NFPRHA is outraged by a district court decision today that seeks to end access to mifepristone, a safe and effective drug that millions of people have relied on for more than two decades. The dire consequences of losing the use of mifepristone for medication abortion would be felt in every state across the country.

“Today’s ruling is a distortion of science and the law, instigated by anti-abortion activists to further their agenda to fully ban abortion and curtail access to reproductive health and rights nationwide, including contraception, and weaponized by an ideologically motivated federal judge.

“We believe everyone has a right to access comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including abortion. We will continue to fight for policies that ensure abortion care is not just legal but affordable and accessible to all who seek it.”
