INTERN, ADVOCACY & COMMUNICATIONS

SUMMARY
NFPRHA is seeking candidates for an advocacy & communications internship for the spring 2019 term. This intern will be integral to carrying out a wide range of policy and communications projects related to publicly funded family planning. This intern will have a particular focus in assisting NFPRHA staff with Hill Education Day during the annual National Conference in March 2019, including logistics and scheduling for NFPRHA’s members to engage with their members of Congress.

REQUIRED TIME COMMITMENT
The Advocacy & Communications Intern will commit 22.5 hours per week during the Spring 2019 semester (January 2019 to May 2019). Start/end dates and working schedule are flexible. This intern will be required to attend the National Conference from March 17-20, 2019 in Washington, DC, staff is willing to work with student interns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

NFPRHA staff rely on interns to make substantive and supportive contributions to our work. The Advocacy & Communications Intern will support staff with key responsibilities over the course of the semester including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Schedule congressional office visits;
  • Research and draft articles for NFPRHA's weekly newsletters;
  • Research and update NFPRHA fact sheets;
  • Monitor and track relevant legislation;
  • Draft social media posts;
  • Attend congressional briefings and coalition meetings on behalf of staff;
  • Track news coverage of relevant federal, state, and local activities;
  • Update NFPRHA’s website;
  • Attend congressional office visits with staff; and
  • Update and maintain congressional staff lists.

  • Comfort working with computer software and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic HTML knowledge or an interest in learning.
  • Ability and desire to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Self-starter.

COMPENSATION

The internship is paid. NFPRHA will also work with student interns and their universities to provide credit for the internship if requested. Graduate student supervision is available for a variety of fields.
