LEGAL FELLOW, HEALTH CARE STRATEGY & ANALYSIS (HCSA)

Status: Exempt; full-time


SUMMARY
The National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) is hiring a two-year legal fellow to help support the association’s federal legal strategy. The Fellow will support NFPRHA’s Health Care Strategy & Analysis (HCSA) program, led by a Vice President who, in conjunction with the President & CEO, is responsible for and leading all of NFPRHA’s legal work. The legal fellow will collaborate closely with NFPRHA staff and other advocacy and legal organizations working at the federal level to protect and expand access to family planning and sexual health care.

This new role of Legal Fellow will be based in NFPRHA’s Washington, DC, headquarters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Legal Fellow would be provided work experience commensurate with their skills in a variety of aspects of NFPRHA's work. The Legal Fellow would be responsible for assisting with ongoing projects within HCSA, as well as initiating and assisting with new projects. Work would include research, writing, drafting, document review, and other tasks.

POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing legal and factual research
  • Analyzing regulations and legislation
  • Drafting legal memoranda, analyses and other documents
  • Helping implement legal strategies
  • Attending court or Congressional hearings
  • Working with NFPRHA members to understand the impact of federal policy actions
  • Participating in HCSA and other NFPRHA meetings related to legal action

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must possess a law degree (Juris Doctor) from an ABA-approved law school by the start of the fellowship. Membership of any U.S. bar in good standing, strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate would have 1-3 years’ experience in law and/or public policy.

LEXIS proficiency is preferable.

Excellent legal research and analytical advocacy skills. Outstanding writing skills - including both legal writing and the ability to write on complex legal topics for a general audience.
